Spring Framework is the underlying dependency-injection and infrastructure framework (Core, MVC, Data, Security, etc.) that requires developers to explicitly wire beans, configure a DispatcherServlet, set up a DataSource, and deploy to an external server. Spring Boot is built on top of the Spring Framework and is an 'opinionated' layer that removes that manual setup: it provides auto-configuration (guessing sensible beans based on what's on the classpath), starter dependencies (curated dependency bundles like spring-boot-starter-web), an embedded servlet container (Tomcat/Jetty/Undertow) so the app runs as a standalone executable JAR, and production-ready features via Actuator. In short: Spring Framework is the toolkit; Spring Boot is the fast, convention-over-configuration way to bootstrap and run a Spring application with minimal boilerplate. A common interview follow-up is that Spring Boot doesn't replace Spring - every Spring Boot app is still a full Spring application underneath.
